Come indossare le righe verticali

Righe verticali.

Vertical lines: the stripes that make yourself look slimmer and taller

It happens every spring: floral (of which I spoke earlier this week HERE) and stripes trend are back. Those for spring summer 2016, in addition to the classic and timeless sailor style, are more unusual and geometrical. Not only straight lines, but also mix between horizontal, vertical, oblique and zigzag’s. Here’s how to style them to make the most of them!
Rather than horizontal, vertical lines give the illusion of a slimmer body. A cliché, but there may have some truth behind it. Let’s think of a pair of trousers or a long skirt: vertical lines definitely elongate the legs and hide wider hips. The same thing on the upper part of the body: they lengthen your torso and hide the belly very well.
The more subtle are the lines, the greater will be the slimming effect. Wide stripes, in fact, tend to accentuate and draw attention to the roundness.
Finally, when choosing the clothes you must pay attention to the model: the more adherent to the silhouette, the more it will highlights it. This is why I personally prefer wider and softer striped pieces.
Lines of this type are therefore ideal to mask parts of the body that you want to to be slimmer. On the opposite side, those who are very skinny, with very narrow shoulders or bust will benefit from wearing horizontal lines, which give the effect of adding volume.
Lastly let’s talk about my outfit. An oversized long jacket, a bare shoulders top (another super trend of the moment) and wide cropped trousers. As accessories, a mini shoulder bag in neutral and some comfortable black sandals with a bow and glittery chunk heels.
Here’s how I’ve styled vertical lines: what do you think of this outfit? Do you also think that the vertical stripes make you look slimmer and taller?
Good Friday and happy weekend!

  1. I love this outfit! The stripes are bold, but so beautiful!
It is very cool that the pants are cropped otherwise it would have been too much. So it is possible to see the gorgeous sandals.
    Perfetto!
