Patch boyfriend jeans: 5 mistakes to avoid

If it were not for the embroidered stars and medals patches, and for the stripe down the side, the jeans that I wear today could easily come from my boyfriend’s wardrobe! I’m joking, actually they are some beautiful boyfriend jeans, meant to be for women, I wore my last day in Berlin. Being very baggy and slouchy, I chose to match them with more fitted pieces of clothing, to calibrate the proportions. So I wore my favorite leather jacket (which you’ve already seen me wearing it in an elegant outfit during Paris Fashion Week HERE), a black shirt and, for shoes, a pair of suède booties with metallic toes and heels, which perfectly resumed the golden patches of the trousers.

Boyfriend jeans are comfortable and trendy, and can save a lot of situations, even during the night time, when you just do not know what to put on. But let us beware of 5 mistakes to avoid when styling them!

1. The size. The right model, with the perfect fit for your body, is essential. Even more when buying of a jeans like this, which of course tends to weigh down the lower part of figure.
2. The top. No to oversized sweaters. With boyfriend jeans are much better crop tops, short fitted or loose sweaters, or shirts to slip into them.
3. The jacket. Yes to leather jacket, black or colored, and blazer in solid color. In doubt for coats and trench (which must be brought strictly undone), which are likely to widen the hips and the thighs.
4. The shoes. No to booties that do not cover the ankle. I personally prefer boyfriend jeans rolled up along the shoe. No to flats. Heels are in my opinion necessary with trousers like these.
5. The accessories. Speaking of styling boyfriend jeans, I find that they look are okay with belts, perhaps embellished with a metal buckle. Or with a shirt tied at the waist, tartan patterned (very nineties). To complete the look, you can add a Borsalino-style hat or a wide brim one.

I leave you with pictures of the outfit, that were shot on my last morning in Berlin in the courtyard of the beautiful hotels I was staying… You may recognize the location, already shown in the post about Snapchat (if you missed it, HERE it is)!
Have a good Tuesday!
