What to wear to a summer ceremony
What to wear to a summer ceremony. Many of you have been asking me via Instagram direct messages for advice on what to wear to a summer ceremony! Summer is the season for ceremonies: after first communions and confirmations, now it’s the right time for weddings (and also for baptisms, in fact I will soon go to the baptism of the son of one of my dearest childhood friends)!
What to wear to a summer ceremony: My outfit ideas
When in doubt on to what to wear, it may be helpful to review the rules of etiquette: following them will prevent us from making an outfit choice that could make us feel uncomfortable or think we are not properly dressed. First and foremost, you have to choose the length of the dress: the wedding etiquette recommends, in the case of an informal wedding, to wear a long dress or a cocktail dress if the ceremony is during the evening, while a simple medium-length dress if the ceremony is during daytime. For formal marriage, on the other hand, they say you should choose the long dress in any case. I too must say that I always tend to opt for a long dress: personally, I feel I am much more at ease! Finally, the etiquette of baptism and other religious rites is much softer: it is advisable to dress elegantly, but above all sober.
After choosing the length of the dress, let’s speak about the color. For mothers and witnesses, I suggest to stay on neutral shades or something not too showy: from powder to all the shades of pink, different tint of blue and, in general, pastel colors are always an ultra chic choice!
If you’re a wedding guest you can dare with even brighter colors. To those who do not like them and want to wear black, it must be said that it was absolutely ok: I suggest you to choose a lighter fabric, something with embroideries or accessories that add something brighter to the outfit… Colors are just fine, except white of course!
While looking for images for the outfit ideas for this post, I came across the Pronovias wedding dresses: so here are some ideas for the brides too. Below are my favorite models: I tend to gravitate towards covered sleeves, better if in lace, and towards straight or mermaid fit.
But I also found many ideas for online princess wedding dresses: more or less voluminous, very choreographic! Here are some of my favorites for the 2019 summer ceremonies!
Finally some practical tips. Based on my experience, I recommend reading the invitation from top to bottom! It happens more and more frequently that the spouses or even the parents of the child to be baptized choose a dress code, like a color or a theme, for the event: it is absolutely necessary to respect it, even if we do not like it! Also the indications on the location are important: an invitation to the farmhouse allows you to choose a more informal outfit, while one in a starred restaurant or in an old villa might suggest that formal clothing is better. In the same way the type of wedding ritual, civil or religious, can provide useful ideas for the choice: the first will require more informal clothing, while the second will be more traditional, and you should never forget to cover the shoulders.
Now we are ready for shopping!
Happy Friday and happy weekend to you all!
