Snow holidays in Trentino-Alto Adige
Snow holidays. It’s been ages since I last went to the mountains during winter time. So after New Year’s Eve I organized a trip for me and my boyfriend in a SPA resort in Trentino-Alto Adige. A snow holiday in total relaxation, in a place that completely won my heart! Being close to nature, seeing the white snow all around and feeling free as in no other place… Here is the full story of my 3 days in Trentino!
Snow holidays: 3 days at Vigilius Mountain Resort
DAY 1.
For my snow holidays I chose a very special, almost unique, place. Cars cannot reach it, nor even the whirring sound of engines, the smell of the asphalt and the pollution. Surrounded by very high larches and perfectly blended with the surrounding landscape, the Vigilius Mountain Resort has an amazing location! To get there you need to reach the village of Lana (province of Bolzano), park the car in the free parking and take the cableway that goes up San Vigilio Mountain. It takes only 7/10 minutes to climb from 500 to 1,500 meters above sea level. Some useful information: the cableway runs every half hour from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, and every hour until 11:00 pm. The rate is included with the overnight stay.
Once arrived upstream, the concierge, informed of our arrival by the operator downstream, was ready to welcome us and help us with the luggage! The road that leads to the entrance of the resort is short but pretty hard so its presence and its help have been much appreciated!
Meanwhile the snow has begun to fall, as if to welcome us to the mountains!
Vigilius is a 5-star resort whose structure has been entirely made of wood, to make it perfectly integrated into the environment and eco-friendly.
We stayed in a suite with a wonderful view of the mountains. The room consisted of a walk-in closet and a large open space area consisting of a double bed, two red leather armchairs, a desk and then the bathroom with tub and shower. The perfect space for a holiday as a couple or family.
There is no internet connection and the Hotel wi-fi connection, to ensure even more a total relaxation, is turned off from 11pm to 7am! Be sure to download the episodes of your current favorite tv-shows otherwise you may not be able to watch them after that time!
DAY 2.
We woke up very early to enjoy the SPA in by ourselves. It was 9 o’clock in the morning and before going to breakfast we went to dive into the pool. Water is the one that flows from San Vigilio Mountain, pure and rich in minerals. There are two pools, one indoor at room temperature and a very hot one outside. Between them a huge window with a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains! There is also a Jacuzzi, a Finnish sauna and a Turkish bath.
Finally we had a generous breakfast: the buffet was nice, with a wide choice and fresh, high quality food.
After breakfast we went to inform us on the paths to explore the surroundings. There are a couple that are quite interesting: one is easier (an hour uphill) and the other is medium level, for a couple of hours uphill. We opted for the first and we left for our walk through the whitewashed larches.
The staff of Vigilius Mountain Resort is super prepared and attentive: in addition to help us choosing the path and to explain the difficulty levels, they lent to each of us of a pair of snowshoes to be applied over our shoes, to avoid slipping. So we walked more than 3 km with a climb of 300 vertical metres without ever falling!
Impossible to stop smiling in front of such a suggestive landscape.
Upon returning, as you can imagine, we were very hungry and we stopped for lunch at Restaurant Stube Ida, which serves regional specialties: here we ate a giant plate of Sud-Tyrol style pasta!
In the afternoon I wanted to go out again in the snow to take pictures with my drone, the DJI Mavic Pro. This is the result!
We then tried one of the many treatments offered by the SPA. We both chose the relaxing massage for an hour. I really liked the technique with which the massage was performed: a strong pressure was applied to my body. Usually when I have to choose the intensity of the massage, I always choose the medium or light one, and it was my first time that I had a more intense body massage. They suggested me this intensity, which helps a lot to relax the muscles, especially after a walk of 3 hours and over 7 km traveled, like the one I had in the morning.
For dinner, however, we tried the other restaurant hosted by the resort, which is called Ristorante 1500: international cuisine very well served!
DAY 3.
On our last day we opted for another of the activities that you can do on San Vigilio Mountain, the toboggan. From Vigilius Mountain Resort you take a single-seater chairlift that takes a good 20 minutes to climb. I was a little frightened at the idea of spending all that time alone on the chairlift but then, once on board, time flew between photos and videos (you can still see them in my Instagram Stories @lauracomolli)!
Toboggans can be rented for € 5 at the start or at the arrival of the chair lift. At the start were all finished while luckily there were still on the arrival. In just ten minutes we came back down!
For lunch we went back to the Tyrolean restaurant of the Vigilius Mountain Resort, ordering this time their pumpkin ravioli: a really delicious lunch!
Then we then went to relax for the last time at the pool and in the sauna.
Next morning we took again the cableway to go down to Lana, ending a wonderful snow holidays on the Dolomiti mountains. After this wonderful experience, I will no longer wait so much time before coming to the mountains again!
A special thanks to Gabriele for satisfying each of our desire and for having pampered us during these 3 days of stay.
I wish you all a good Friday!
