My summer beauty routine w/ SkinCeuticals
After discovering SkinCeuticals products, my summer beauty routine has changed completely. Through a series of encounters and experiences, I have learned a lot about skincare and how important is protecting the skin from aging factors. I made the most of the various opinions and advices of the experts, but also of your own, that on Instagram and Snapchat (@lauracomolli) arrived numerous as soon as you saw me try the products of which I am about to speak. Thanks to all of you who have spent time to tell me how much you appreciate SkinCeuticals and to advise me of your favorite products! I am here today to tell you all about my experience!
SkinCeuticals, for the uninitiated, offers breakthrough treatments for the skin. Its history began in 1994 when Dr. Sheldon Pinnell, after decades of research, decided to propose for the first time on the market an innovative product to provide protection from environmental aging factors (induced by pollution from ozone, sunlight, the smoke): topical antioxidants. Thus it was born SkinCeuticals, a precursor brand that has transformed the industry of professional treatments in the US by creating an entirely new category of products for the skincare. Since then antioxidants are considered crucial for the protection and defense of the skin and are literally blossoming cosmeceutical companies.
Let’s start from the beginning! My experience with SkinCeuticals began a month ago at Farmacia Del Leone (Via San Secondo 46, Torino), under the guidance of Dr. Valentina Manno. I must premise that SkinCeuticals products are found only in pharmacies and in medi-spas (which I will talk further in the post). And exclusively in the pharmacy you can benefit from the free analysis of your skin with the SkinScope tool.
But let’s go step by step. The first thing the doctor told me when I arrived was the philosophy of the brand. Three basic steps: prevent, protect and correct. Essential to improve and maintain the youthful appearance of the facial skin and provide optimal anti-aging results. The doctor performed a thorough analysis of my skin with the unique SkinScope technology, which uses daylight and LED-UV light to examine the state of the skin: a powerful tool capable of detecting the visible imperfections and those under the skin ones, the signs of the accumulated solar damage, oily skin and clogged pores, the zones where the skin is dehydrated and thinner or the texture is not uniform and the degree of flaking. Based on the results, which showed that my skin is a fairly normal skin but with dry areas around the lips, chin and part of the forehead, the doctor then advised me the better facial treatments suited to my personal needs! Here they are:
1. Phloretin CF. Antioxidant serum for the skin which should be applied in the morning and acts throughout the day, creating a protective barrier against free radicals generated from environmental attacks. In addition to preventing the signs of damage due to photo-aging, it also corrects the existing ones thanks to a mix of active (2% of Floretina – molecule derived from the cortex of the apple tree – 10% of L-ascorbic Acid and 0.5% of Ferulic acid) can stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastin and accelerate the process of cell turnover, helping to preserve the skin cells function. I apply it after cleansing: I use the eyedropper to deposit three drops of product, one on front and one for each cheek, then dab it all over your face with gentle movements. After a few moments it is perfectly absorbed and I can proceed to the next step.
2. Resveratrol B E. Antioxidant Night Treatment. The mix of active ingredients (1% of pure Resveratrol – a powerful polyphenol derived from the plant of the Japanese honeysuckle, known for its ability to increase endogenous defenses of the skin – 0.5% of Baicalin and 1% of Alpha-Tocopherol), it helps to protect and strengthen the skin’s natural defenses against oxidative stress and reduces skin blemishes and the effects of collagen degradation. I use it every day in the evening, after cleansing and, like for Phloretin CF, 3 drops are enough to cover the entire face.
3. Mineral UV Defense Radiance Solar SPF50. Sunscreen that I apply as a last step before makeup and serves to protect the skin from both UVB and UVA radiation. I found out that the sunscreen should be applied throughout the year, not just when we expose ourselves to the sun to tan, so I started to apply it right away every day. What struck me most than “classic” sunscreen for the face is that this is so light and has silky texture, it’s water-resistant, easy to apply and it dries very quickly. It is also slightly colored (in a universal tone), so this cream evens out the skin and is an excellent base for makeup.
4. Eye Balm. Emollient cream for the eye contour: it corrects the early signs of aging in this delicate area of the face. Being a “balm”, after applying it the eye area is instantly hydrated thanks to its extreme moisturizing power.
These are the products that I have included in my beauty routine of the last month and I have to admit that right now I felt my skin more moisturized, but above all much more luminous and toned. I seem to see my face a lot less tired and more relaxed.
Let us take a step back in time to last week, when I was invited at the Clinica del Viso (Piazza della Repubblica 21, Milan). I had never been in a medi-spa before, and I was happy to have had at my disposal a nice and professional plastic surgeon like Dr. Christophe Buratto, who patiently answered each of my many questions! I discovered that the SkinCeuticals products paired with in the medi-spa treatments become even more performing. Dr. Buratto advised for my skin a very gentle laser therapy that ensures optimal results without being particularly invasive. It struck me so much that he said that this type of treatment is not meant to rejuvenate, but to age better and protect your skin! It is also one of the few laser which doesn’t inhibit sun exposure. The treatment takes just over half an hour at all, perfect for those with limited time that can enjoy a moment for herself alone only at lunch. After a thorough facial cleansing with Gentle Cleanser, ideal to prepare the skin to the treatment without drying it (due to its natural emollient), it started the real treatment with the Clear & Brilliant that despite the initial fears, it has not caused me any discomfort. Once finished it was the turn of the mask: he applied the new Phyto Corrective Masque, left on for about 15 minutes and then rinsed with fresh water, to soothe the skin. Then a few drops of Hydrating B5, a hyaluronic acid-based fluid to hydrate the skin deeply. Finally it was the turn of applying sunscreen, the Ultra Facial Defense SPF 50. My skin was still a little red, but that did not stop me from returning immediately operational.
After my session with Dr. Buratto I realized how important is the quality of the experience at the medi-spa: is good to know that there are people who give care, patience and time to explain step by step what they’re doing to your skin and then give you advice on what products to use at home to maximize the effectiveness of treatment and maintain it.
After few days of treatment, now my skin is being renewed and is completely different from before. The blackheads have virtually disappeared. It is very bright, smooth and firm! The results of my new summer beauty routine are absolutely amazing!
